Biogest Collarmele Biomethane Plant
About the site
Located in Italy’s fertile Fucino basin, the Collarmele biomethane project represents a major step forward for the BIOGEST Group. It’s the first Own Plant Operation (OPO) under their new BIOP brand, showcasing the company’s commitment to efficient, sustainable energy production.
With an output capacity of 560 Smc/h (149,488 MMBTU per year), the plant converts over 75,000 tonnes of agricultural residues annually, primarily chicken manure and vegetable processing waste such as fennel.
The process follows Biogest’s PowerRing technology, a high-efficiency system designed to maximise gas yield while maintaining stable digestion. The site also integrates a CO₂ liquefaction unit, enabling production of food-grade CO₂ alongside renewable biomethane and organic fertiliser.
CCL's scope of work

ConstructionCrew Ltd was contracted to deliver several key installation and commissioning packages that formed the backbone of the site’s operational systems:
• Gas Line and Feeding Line Welding & Installation – Complete fabrication and installation of feed infrastructure and gas infrastructure.
• Streisel BioBull Mixer Installation – Precision installation ensuring optimal blending and digestion performance.
• Mebatek Mixer Installation – Integration of high-efficiency mixing equipment for substrate uniformity and improved gas yield.
• PD Heating System Installation – Full setup of the heating loop to maintain controlled digester temperatures.
• Equipment and Sensor Installation – Deployment of control instruments, temperature probes, and process sensors for automated monitoring.
• Anti-Foam System Installation – Integration of anti-foam dosing systems to control form-related disruptions and maintain process reliability.
These works were carried out with strict adherence to Biogest’s design standards and on-site safety protocols, ensuring full integration within the wider PowerRing system.

Partnership and Collaboration
The success of the Collarmele project reflects seamless cooperation between Biogest, and specialist contractors like CCL. Our collaborative approach ensured efficient project delivery, clear communication, and consistent alignment with Biogest’s technical and operational standards.
Sustainability and regional impact
The Collarmele site is a true example of the circular economy in action. By recycling waste from local agriculture and food production into renewable energy and organic fertilizer, the plant reduces greenhouse gas and nitrogen emissions while supporting local farming operations.
The short transport distances between feedstock suppliers and the site help minimize environmental impact, and plans for future photovoltaic integration will further enhance energy self-sufficiency and sustainability.
