Welcome to
Bangley Quarry Biogas

About this site.

The Bangley Quarry Biogas Plant in East Lothian, Scotland is a modern anaerobic digestion facility designed to boost the region’s renewable energy capacity. The site produces 1,100 cubic metres of biomethane per hour, supplying enough renewable gas to meet the needs of the nearby town of Haddington which has a population of around 10,000 residents.

Food and organic waste collected from local sources is processed and fed into sealed digesters where anaerobic bacteria break down the material and create biogas. This biogas is upgraded to biomethane and injected into the gas grid, allowing the community to access a clean, low-carbon energy source produced from its own waste streams.

What we did.

ConstructionCrew Ltd supported the construction of the Bangley Quarry Biogas Plant by delivering a wide range of specialist installation packages across the site. Our work included:

• Pipework fabrication and installation across all feed, heating, recirculation and gas-handling systems.

• Fabrication and installation of the site-specific heating system, ensuring stable digester temperatures throughout operation.

• Cladding and insulation of the process tanks to protect against weather exposure and improve thermal efficiency.

• Installation of all mixer systems, supporting consistent substrate blending and efficient gas production.

• Gas roof installation on the digesters, providing safe biogas capture and maintaining stable internal operating pressures.

These installations form the core of the plant’s digestion, heating and gas-storage systems and help secure long-term performance and process reliability.

Sustainability & Regional Impact.

CCL worked directly with BioConstruct, the project’s EPC contractor, to deliver our scope of works on the Bangley Quarry Biogas Plant. Coordination focused on ensuring that our mechanical installations were completed safely, on programme and fully aligned with BioConstruct’s construction sequence and technical requirements.

Clear communication, structured handovers and adherence to site safety standards allowed our team to integrate smoothly into the wider build and support efficient project delivery.

Partnership & Collaboration.

Bangley Quarry Biogas plays a key role in Scotland’s transition to a low-carbon energy system. By generating 1,100 cubic metres of biomethane every hour, the plant produces enough renewable gas to supply an entire community and significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

CCL’s contribution supports strong digestion performance, effective heating, reliable gas capture and durable tank protection, helping ensure the facility operates safely and efficiently for years to come. The result is a robust renewable-energy asset that supports local sustainability, reduces emissions and strengthens Scotland’s green-energy infrastructure.
